Tempeh lettuce tomato sandwich


3 tablespoons olive oil
¼ cup shoyu sauce (or soy sauce)
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar (or maple syrup)
3 tablespoons adobo sauce from a can of chipotle peppers

8 ounces of tempeh, cut into ⅓-inch thick strips

1 small basket of cherry tomatoes (2 cups)
¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil olive oil
1 tablespoon brown sugar (or maple syrup)
scant ½ teaspoon of salt

1 small head of romaine lettuce, cored, then cut into ¼-inch ribbons
1-2 large avocados, mashed with a pinch of salt just before assembling
4 or 8 extra-thin slices of hearty whole grain bread, well toasted


Preheat oven to 350F degrees.

Whisk together the 3 tablespoons of olive oil, shoyu, balsamic vinegar, brown sugar and adobo sauce. Pour ⅓ of the tempeh marinade into an 8x8 baking dish (or something comparable) - you want a dish that is just big enough to hold the tempeh in a single layer - this way it will be fully enveloped by the marinade. Pour the remaining marinade over the top of the tempeh, cover and keep in the refrigerator for a couple hours, overnight or until ready to use.

While the tempeh is marinating, go ahead and roast the tomatoes. Cut each tomato in half and arrange them in a large oven-proof baking dish. Mix together the olive oil, sugar, and salt and pour this over the tomatoes. Gently toss them a bit, making sure they all get coated, finishing with each tomato facing cut-side up. Place in the oven and bake for 45 minutes or so, until the tomatoes are shrunken and sweet.

When the tempeh is done marinating heat a large pan over medium-high heat and cook the tempeh slices for a few minutes on each side. You may need to do this in batches if you don’t have a big enough pan. Set the tempeh slices aside until you are ready to assemble the sandwiches.

To assemble each sandwich take one slice of bread and slather a generous layer of mashed avocado. Place a small helping of the shredded lettuce on top of the avocado, a few tomatoes, then a few slices of the tempeh, and more tomatoes. Enjoy either open faced or topped with another avocado-slathered bread slice.

Tempeh Sloppy Joes



200g tempeh, roughly crumbled
100g bbq sauce
1 tbsp olive oil
2 sticks celery, finely chopped
1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
1 onion, finely chopped
1/2 can of stewed tomatoes
A dash or two of liquid smoke
salt to taste


1. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan
2. Add the onion, celery and green pepper and sauté until tender
3. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 15 minutes or more (the longer the better, the tempeh will crumble more as it cooks)
4. Serve on hamburger buns with lettuce, tomato and sliced onion (if desired). Or, for a tidier sandwich, stuff it in a pita, or wrap it in a tortilla!

Sambal Goreng Katerina



300 gm kacang panjang
2 keping tempe (potong dadu dan goreng)
2 keping tauhu (potong dadu dan goreng)
1 keping fucuk (rendam)
1 peket kecil suun (rendam)
2 biji kentang (potong hiris dan goreng)
2 sudu besar air asam jawa
500 ml santan kelapa


4 labu bawang besar
10 tangkai cili kering
6 ulas bawang putih
2 cm halia
30 gm udang kering
1 batang serai
2 cm lengkuas


1. Panaskan minyak dan kemu­dian tumis bahan kisar dan kacau hingga garing.
2. Masukkan semua bahan sayuran, santan, air asam jawa dan kacau hingga masak.
3. Rasalah masin dan ma­nisnya. Gaul sebati sehingga semuanya masak.

Sambal Tempe


there is actually 2 version of these sambal tempe... 1. sambal biasa and 2. sambal goreng garing. never actually did the latter so this one is the sambal basah tempe ok.

1. tempe
2. cili kering
3. bawang merah
4. bawang putih
5. kalau nak campur ikan bilis macam gambar diatas boleh juga.

1. goreng tempe begitu sahaja sehingga brownish (kalu nak campur ikan bilis, goreng gak sehingga garing)
2. dalam masa yang sama, blend cili kering, bawang merah dan bawang putih (kalau nak sedap tambahkan sedikit ikan bilis) sehingga halus.
3. guna minyak no. 1 (janganlah over banyak) dan tumis bahan-bahan no.2 sehingga pecah minyak.
4. perasakan dengan garam, gula dan sedikit air asam jawa
5. masukkan tempe dan ikan bilis dan gaul rata.
6. enjoy

Tempe goreng kunyit


resepi paling simple sekali untuk memasak tempe... ialah tempe goreng kunyit

1. tempe
2. kunyit (tumeric)
3. garam (salt)

1. gaulkan tempe bersama kunyit dan garam. letak air jika perlu. (mix tempe with tumeric and a little bit of salt. add water if necessary.)

2. goreng dalam minyak panas sehingga tempe bewarna keemasan. (fried in hot oil until the tempe is golden in colour)

3. enjoyyy
